Statistics show that low poverty levels equate to lower reading levels, at our school we are doing everything in our power to combat this statistic with as many opportunities to expose children to literature in every medium. For this project we chose to raise funds for a screen free library option for our students. Yoto Players seemed like a great option. We love that they are screen free, the card library has many stories and themes that pertain to our already purchased curriculums, and they give struggling readers access to literature that they might not otherwise have access to. \r\n\r\nWe've since purchased headphone splitters so we can get groups of 5 around one player listening to a story/informational text. We've also been able to use them during our small group and intervention times for lower readers so they can follow along with their physical copy and for higher readers as an extension to their book studies. While investigating more we have found that there are listening cards for math strategies, geography lessons, classroom movement breaks, and calming background noises. In addition we've found many resources that pair nicely with the stories that offer students comprehension activities. \r\n\r\nOverall, we are very pleased with this purchase and our students are gaining greatly from them.","fullyFundedDate":1765213132180,"projectUrl":"project/screen-free-listening-library/9938637/","projectTitle":"Screen Free Listening Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meals","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10365562"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_87758","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":262,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":76,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":72.5,"schoolId":87758,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Green Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Green Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/roseburg-school-district-4/green-elementary-school/87758"}
