When my students first saw the new resources funded by this grant, their eyes sparkled with excitement, and their interest certainly peaked. They were grateful and eager to incorporate these new tools into their daily routines. After we discussed expectations, students quickly began trying out the various fidgets, and now every child has had at least one opportunity to use a tool that helps them focus.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the noise-blocking headphones have become an essential part of our writing sessions, allowing students to concentrate and transfer their ideas onto the page without distraction. The engaging pens have also had a similar effect whenever kids need to record their thinking on paper. Students have used them for a phonics and spelling assessment, as well as while summarizing a book they studied in literacy. Left-handed students have discovered that the flair pens don't smear, making writing a smoother experience for them.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I plan to keep these resources readily available for students as needed. I will also continue to identify additional items that can further support my students' learning needs and may explore writing additional grants in the future to expand these opportunities. Your contributions have truly enriched our classroom environment, and I can't wait to see how my students continue to thrive with these resources! Everyday when they come to school, they walk into a room that feels safe and welcoming. With the help of your donation, I am able to teach without having the added worry of making sure I have the supplies needed to make learning both accessible and joyful. Because in my room, all learning should be fun! \r\nOne of the most appreciated items that was funded through this project was the galaxy-patterned-light-covers. I have a few neurodivergent learners and harsh lighting can be distracting, at best, and overstimulating which can lead to not fun outcomes. These light covers are helpful for all and helps make our classroom feel more comfortable. \r\nHowever, the light covers were just the tip of the iceberg! Job charts, dot spots and calendar supplies help us all to know what is expected and helps keep routines consistent. \r\nI cannot overstate how much this funded project has helped me in transitioning back to my own classroom. Our bird guides and binoculars are conveniently set up in front of the windows facing the courtyard, allowing students easy access whenever a new bird arrives at our feeders. This setup not only encourages observation but also fosters a calming environment. We have created a \"calming station\" where students can bird watch to help regulate their emotions, particularly when they are experiencing heightened feelings. Thanks to your contributions, we have ample bird seed to last through the winter, ensuring our feathered friends are well-fed and hopefully attracting many new species to our schoolyard. When our students first saw the materials, they eagerly engaged with the guides and binoculars, using the ASL bird symbol to alert me whenever they spotted a bird. If we identify a new species, we take quick breaks for impromptu bird watching, allowing their enthusiasm to deepen their connection to nature.\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve continuing our birdwatching activities and participating in Feedwatch, a citizen science project that collects valuable data on birds and their migration patterns. This initiative will enhance their observational skills and instill a sense of responsibility and contribution to scientific research. One memorable project was at the end of our Botany unit, where students used materials to create magnified watercolor paintings of parts of the Theobroma cacao tree, the central plant of our study. When the new supplies first arrived, the excitement was palpable—students were immediately drawn in by the beautiful materials and eager to begin painting. As they worked, their focus deepened, and their natural creativity flourished. They began experimenting with brush techniques, layering colors, and thinking more intentionally about how to represent what they had learned.\r\n\r\nThese watercolor materials will continue to play a key role as we move through the rest of the school year. Students will create artwork connected to upcoming units, including Schoolyard Birds, The Sea, Outer Space, and Immigration. The calm, focused energy they bring to painting makes it an ideal way to reinforce academic content in a hands-on, expressive way. Our next steps include designing additional art-integrated projects that help students make lasting connections. With these new resources, we're not only enriching their understanding but also giving our students a powerful outlet for creativity and personal expression.","fullyFundedDate":1759125823461,"projectUrl":"project/pigment-paper-lets-paint/9767859/","projectTitle":"Pigment & Paper: Let's Paint","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp324107_orig.jpg?crop=2368,2368,x161,y574&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758846386512","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/windyford"},{"teacherId":324107,"projectId":9726271,"letterContent":"The new Fundations whiteboards have become an essential part of our daily phonics lessons, offering a consistent and engaging tool for both instruction and practice. Each day, students use these boards to work on their cursive handwriting, with the built-in line guides helping them form letters correctly and confidently. The whiteboards also support our spelling instruction, allowing students to visually break down and mark up words. One particularly successful moment was when students practiced adding vowel suffixes to 1-1-1 words like run to form running—they could clearly see and understand the rule in action. The boards have truly elevated our ability to teach foundational phonics skills in a hands-on, student-centered way.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward in the school year, students will continue using their whiteboards to build on what they've already learned. With a strong grasp on concepts like closed syllables and closed syllable exceptions, they are now ready to explore more advanced phonics patterns and spelling rules. These whiteboards will continue to be a key tool in helping students master how words work. New third-grade students joining our classroom will be seamlessly included in these lessons, as each one will have a whiteboard ready for them.
