My students enjoyed having the opportunity to be creative and think deeply about what feels safe and calming for them. We started our project by doing an SEL unit on emotions. We learned about how to identify and manage emotions. Then we talked about the value of having a place where we can feel safe, calm, and relaxed. Students got to make a physical representation of a place they feel that way. We ended the project with a descriptive writing piece to describe how they feel in their safe space. The students were excited to share their creations with their other teachers and their families. Thank you for helping my students experience this memorable and meaningful project.\r\n\r\nThere are some leftover supplies from the project. Students get to have \"Maker Space\" time every Friday. Our school is small and doesn't offer art classes, so my students were really excited to learn about our safe space project and are loving having the freedom to use their imaginations as they use up the leftover supplies. The kindness and teamwork I see in them as they create, warms my heart. They ask for and offer each other suggestions, share supplies eagerly, and take responsibility for setting up and cleaning up supplies every time we use these materials. \r\n\r\nThe clay, decorative rocks, and glue guns are the favorite items with all the students. It is amazing to see them blossom as they express themselves with these materials. This wouldn't be possible without your generosity.
