My students were happy to use all of the new supplies that were ready for them at the beginning of the year! The desk nameplates are especially useful for my 5th graders. We are currently learning about decimals and fractions and these nameplates have been a nice reference tool for them. During math, we are using our new dry erase markers on mini whiteboards everyday. It's a great way to keep students engaged throughout the lesson. \r\n\r\nThe colorful highlighters have also been nice to have for reading and writing. The 5th graders have been using them to identify important information in a text by highlighting evidence to support their answers. While these are simple, straight forward supplies, they have made such a big impact on their learning and engagement. One kiddo said they love the colors of their folder. Another kiddo mentioned how exciting it is to have clear folders to take home. They are excited to use their new notebooks and add fun stickers. I even had students excited that they have name tags with colors, shapes, and number lines.\r\n We have already used the supplies to make some fun art. We took the time to decorate paper crocs and add charms. The kiddos really enjoyed being able to share their creations and passions through this project. I will say that having some of my supplies for kids to start off second grade made a huge difference. It allowed me to feel less stressed starting the year off. Kids were able to see their supplies at meet the teacher. Knowing the supplies were coming to our classroom built up the anticipation and excitement for their arrival. When my students first saw all the supplies they were ecstatic! If I got a nickel every time I heard, \"Finally, skin color crayons!\" I would be able to make a trip to get coffee! \r\n\r\nThe students love using the new bean bags during independent reading time and during our snack and story time. I teach a diverse-needs group of students, so routines and procedures are a must! With the bean bags, I'm able to have a rotation. The Afmat pencil sharpener is so much better than a traditional electric pencil sharpener. I have a couple of students with sensory issues and they would not sharpen their pencils before we got this new one. Now, they will sharpen their pencils because it isn't excessively loud. The magnetic whiteboard is so helpful in small intervention groups.
