For many of my students, this was their first time using a microphone, and their faces absolutely lit up with excitement!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were in awe. The supplies, snacks, and especially the social-emotional learning tools—like the stuffed animals and sensory items—created a comforting, welcoming space. One student even said, \"This feels like home.\" That meant the world to me.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're starting a county research project where students will use the materials to create posters and presentations about different parts of Oregon. Every student deserves to feel like they belong and the books, posters, tools, and materials in this project has allowed this to happen.\r\nFirst, the books around character traits supports me teaching the students how to be successful in the world and solve problems in healthy ways. I was also able to get books centered around different perspectives, a variety of cultures, and people that can show STEM in a positive light.\r\nSecond, I was able to get posters and art materials that help my students be seen. Showing a diverse selection of people in a positive light helps my students feel like they are being represented in the classroom. The same goes with the art supplies. Helping students see that all colors are beautiful and that white is not the default will support their growing perspective of themselves. Having colored pencils with all skin colors allows them to truly create themselves.\r\nThis project has been a positive boon for the classroom as my students now see that they are important and matter to me.","fullyFundedDate":1741059002174,"projectUrl":"project/representation-in-the-classroom/9138325/","projectTitle":"Representation in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brabham","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2937948_orig.jpg?crop=1238,1238,x112,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1582606339721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2937948"},{"teacherId":1954849,"projectId":9143727,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our 2nd grade classroom has been transformed into a warm, inviting space where reading comes alive!
