By purchasing products for an outdoor classroom it has given them an opportunity to learn in an environment often denied them in a traditional education setting. They were very surprised and pleased that I was willing to shake things up and provide them such a rewarding learning experience.\r\n\r\nI could immediately see a difference in the way they responded to their lessons. Students who would often be groggy in class, perked up when provided fresh air and nature. Taking students outside should not be an unusual experience, particularly in a biological science course, and I am happy to be making strides to change the norm. Hopefully, as more research supports the positive mental health benefits of nature more educators will follow suite. This not only benefits my biology students. As a teacher of Biomedical Science, many of my students will be going into various health fields. This has given them a first-hand understanding of the less traditional benefits of mental health treatment.\r\n\r\nMy students now pay attention to the weather and regularly ask if we can hold class outside on nice days.
