When my students first got a glimpse of the items, they were extremely eager to start reading. I had male students eager to play female roles since we had wigs and dresses they could wear--just like the actors in Shakespeare's time! The female students in my class were just as excited about the male wigs and fake beard you provided us! \r\n\r\nThe costumes help students imagine not only the historical context of the time, but the cultural context as well. Since adding the costumes to the read-through, students have become more proactive in reading aloud. It has also helped students keep a better track of the different characters since they can associate them with a student and a costume. In fact, I see students having fun by dressing up and playing the role rather than just reading a role. I've even had students don an accent while costumed up. \r\n\r\nOverall, I would say this experience was a success! My juniors will start reading Arthur Miller's The Crucible soon, which I think would be another way to incorporate costumes and role-playing in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1745328119871,"projectUrl":"project/shakespeare-in-the-classroom/9040188/","projectTitle":"Shakespeare in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Reyes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9690640_orig.jpg?crop=1344,1344,x41,y113&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736395736134","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9690640"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44402","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":385,"numTeachers":11,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":19,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"35.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":93.3,"schoolId":44402,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tonkawa Junior Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tonkawa Junior Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/tonkawa-public-school-district/tonkawa-junior-senior-high-school/44402"}
