Students examine themes such as courage, survival, hope, resilience, prejudice, choices, and the impact individuals can have during difficult circumstances. These novels also help students understand history through personal stories and different perspectives, making the past feel more real and meaningful.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and purposeful. Students discuss important passages, ask questions, make connections, and use evidence from the text to support their thinking. We read together to ensure understanding and retention for all students. Students also have opportunities to reflect on how the characters' experiences shape their choices and beliefs. Having a class set of each of these novels allows students to return to meaningful passages as they develop their understanding of both the literature and the historical events surrounding it.\r\n\r\nThese books often connect especially well with students who enjoy historical stories or who are curious about what life was really like for people during World War II. Students who may not typically consider themselves strong readers can become invested when they connect with a character and want to know what happens next. Prisoner B-3087 is particularly accessible for my 6th grade students who need a more approachable reading level, while Sarah's Key and All the Light We Cannot See give my high school students opportunities to explore more complex characters, perspectives, and storytelling. Most importantly, these books give students a chance to see history through the eyes of individuals and develop empathy for experiences very different from their own.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping bring these powerful stories into our classroom. Your generosity gives students more than books—it gives them the opportunity to learn from the past, develop empathy, find strength in stories of resilience, and become more thoughtful readers and citizens. I am incredibly grateful for your support and for helping my students discover the power of literature to teach, inspire, and change the way we see the world.","fullyFundedDate":1778505065795,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-preserving-history-holo/10166332/","projectTitle":"“Turning Pages, Preserving History: Holocaust Novels for Young Minds”","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M.
