My 2nd through 4th-grade students were overjoyed when the books arrived! They couldn't wait to explore the new titles—especially the nonfiction ones filled with authentic, captivating photographs. One of my students was so excited to see books about the ocean, as they had been to the beach over the summer. These high-interest, low-readability books have quickly become a favorite part of our reading intervention time, giving every student the confidence to read independently and the excitement to share what they've discovered with classmates. Seeing even my most hesitant readers light up with enthusiasm and pride in their progress has been wonderful.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly transformed our reading time and reminded my students that there are people who believe in their growth and potential. Having the ability to print directly from my classroom has cut down on prep time, which allows me to devote more energy to teaching and working with my students in the moment. The copy paper and ink have given me the flexibility to create individualized practice sheets and handwriting activities that meet each student's needs without relying so heavily on technology.\r\n\r\nOne special moment came when I introduced a check-writing activity to help students practice real-world handwriting skills. They were excited to complete the assignment on paper and then proudly showed off their work. The snacks you provided made the perfect incentive—students worked diligently knowing they had an immediate reward to look forward to. Their smiles and enthusiasm reminded me how powerful even simple resources can be in creating a positive learning environment.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the extra supplies, they were thrilled that they would be using more paper-based assignments rather than spending so much time on devices. Many of them said they felt more confident practicing their writing with pencils and adaptive tools, and the snacks have quickly become a favorite classroom motivator.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will be expanding their handwriting practice into short essay writing and journaling activities. These new projects will help them strengthen both their confidence and their ability to express themselves in writing. Your contributions have not only supported daily learning but are laying the foundation for long-term growth in my students' academic skills.","fullyFundedDate":1733930827884,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-focus-paper-in-place-tech-d/8770280/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Focus, Paper in Place: Tech Down, Handwriting’s Grace","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8672565_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y240&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726157716886","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8672565"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132605","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":32,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":132605,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The Academy of Okmulgee on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The Academy of Okmulgee","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/oklahoma-department-of-education/the-academy-of-okmulgee/132605"}
