A calming corner is a great way for kindergarten students to learn self regulation, how to make good choices, time management, and self-awareness. Additionally, a calming center allows a student time to regroup and check in on their emotions. In class, all of these items would allow me to create this calming corner in my room to help students regulate and be prepared for further learning. I have noticed that my students are much more excited and ready to learn after they have had a time to reset. Also, they can choose which items to use in order to help them reset as different students all prefer different items. The items that I have selected for my project will allow me to set up a calming corner in my classroom that encourages time to reflect and toys that will stimulate a sense of peace. The bean bag will give students a comfortable place to sit in the corner. The toys will give students the time that they need to breathe and stimulate peace using sensory materials. The timer will allow students to be independent and make their own choice of how long they need based on how they are feeling.
