We have had a wonderful start to the year. Our materials have already been used to support a wide variety of instruction centered around identity, heritage, and celebration. Because this is a U.S. History class, we have a unique opportunity to have real-world conversations about how early systems have influenced contemporary conversations. I am so thankful for your support of my students as it has equipped our classroom routines, procedures, and enhanced the resources for learning in ways I wish you could witness.\r\n\r\nI have also been lucky enough to get to teach a Writing Enhancement class that has been greatly supported by our classroom library. These students are currently reading books that they have selected and are exploring leaders like Malala Yousafzai, reading about Black Wall Street, and asking questions about things like the Vietnam War while also strengthening their comprehension and writing skills. I have also been able to support our learners by utilizing headphones for text-to-speech, multicolor pens for editing and visibility support, and even a snack or two for some energy. Whatever the need is, we almost always have the resource to resolve it in-class (keeping kids grounded and learning!).\r\n\r\nOur posters, timers, and globe have been some of my favorite additions to our classroom. Students are asking questions each hour about something new they learned or noticed from our classroom visuals. We have also been able to practice our time-management skills with our new timers. Our globe rotates and has led to interesting conversations about what a certain country is. The questions and learning happening reaches far beyond our standard classroom content, and I am so grateful that you have been an agent in supporting that opportunity for us. With the iPad and Apple Pencil, students are able to practice foundational literacy skills during carpet time, including writing letters, completing our message of the day, and filling in missing letters to build phonics and word recognition skills. These activities allow students to actively participate, receive immediate feedback, and build confidence in a fun and engaging way. The ability to interact directly with the screen helps meet the needs of diverse learners and keeps students motivated and focused.\r\nIn addition to literacy practice, students will use this technology to play matching and review games created in Google Slides. These games reinforce skills through repetition and visual support, making learning feel like play while still being highly effective. Technology has become an essential part of how students learn, and your generosity ensures that my classroom can provide equitable, engaging experiences that prepare students for future success.\r\nBeyond academics, this project also supports an important lesson about environmental responsibility. My students have been learning that taking care of our Earth means being mindful of how we use our resources. By using energy-efficient technology and learning about ecolabels like EPEAT, students are gaining awareness of sustainability at an early age.
