Since my upbringing was filled with books and encouragement to love reading, it's something I'm very passionate about as an educator. It's because of wonderful family members and English teachers in my life who encouraged and fostered that love of reading that I chose to become an English teacher.\r\n In a day and age where technology is king, it's becoming more and more rare to see students read. It's also becoming more rare that students possess skills learned from reading, such as empathy and understanding, curiosity, etc. It is my hope that by providing my students with not only time, but resources, they will be able to regain some of those important skills that generations before them learned from reading books.\r\n By funding my project, I was able to purchase 63 books for my classroom library. That is such a significant blessing to my students, who will now be able to use that library when selecting books to read in class. It has been incredible to see high school students light up at the discovery of the classroom library and the books on offer to them.
