The moment they walked in the classroom and saw the kitchen, easel, bookshelf and cozy reading nook - their eyes lit up with excitement. They could not believe they would have the opportunity to play with materials like these. \r\nThe easel and kitchen are used multiple times a week during Purposeful Play. The kitchen invites students to collaborate to create meals, envision having their own restaurant, or one of their favorites, playing house. The easel is a world of imagination for my students. They cannot wait for their turn to make the black and white board into something magical. I have had students create portraits of themselves and their families, draw the entire solar system, and practice skills we have learned in class, like making a map. \r\nNeedless to say, your donation went far beyond the money you gave. Because of your kindness, our classroom now has shelves filled with beautiful, diverse, and inclusive books that reflect the incredible mix of children and families in our community. Every book you helped provide has already started making a difference in ways that are truly heartwarming.\r\n One of the class' favorite books from this project uses school lunches as a way to teach inclusion and empathy for students new to school and our community. It's a reminder of why this project matters so much: every child deserves to see themselves in the stories they read.\r\n Our classroom library is now a space where every student can find something that connects with them—books about friendship, kindness, courage, and understanding. There are stories about children who speak different languages, families who celebrate different holidays, and heroes who come in all shapes and sizes. These books are helping my students learn not only to read words, but to read the world around them with empathy and respect.\r\n Reading together has become one of our favorite parts of the day. The room fills with laughter, curiosity, and sometimes deep little conversations that surprise me. When we read about a character with a different family or celebrating a holiday they've never heard of, the kids ask questions, make connections, and show so much care for one another.
