We look at the pictures, identify and describe what we see, make predictions, answer questions, retell important parts of the story, and connect the story to our own experiences. The books provide a fun and natural way for students to practice communication skills that they can use throughout their school day.\r\n\r\nMy students especially enjoy books with colorful illustrations, familiar topics, and opportunities to participate. For students who have difficulty communicating, books give them a comfortable way to engage, point to pictures, answer questions, imitate language, and share their ideas. Seeing students become excited to choose a book, participate in the story, and communicate about what they see has been incredibly rewarding.
