The sewing supplies have allowed students to begin learning basic hand-sewing skills, including threading needles, practicing stitches, pinning fabric, measuring, cutting, and learning how to safely use sewing tools. Our Brother sewing machine has also given students the opportunity to become familiar with machine sewing and begin creating their own projects. Students are especially excited to practice skills they can use at home, such as mending and repairing clothing.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the students were excited to see the new sewing supplies and immediately wanted to explore everything. The colorful pins, magnetic pin cushions, fabric scissors, needles, and sewing machine made the classroom feel like a real sewing studio. Their excitement grew as they realized they would actually get to use the equipment themselves rather than simply learning about sewing from a textbook.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building foundational sewing skills before students begin individual projects. They will practice measuring and cutting accurately, learn different stitches, safely operate the sewing machine, and eventually complete projects that demonstrate the skills they have learned. We are also incorporating the pasta maker, cookie scoops, pizza pan, and Ninja CREAMi into our food preparation lessons, giving students additional opportunities to practice cooking, measurement, food safety, and following directions.\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping turn our classroom into a place where students can learn by doing.
