We did a lot of background information before we began to read. They, for the most part, like it so far! It is a beautifully written book. Although we are not through it, let me share with you some coming assignments. \r\n\r\nDuring the book, each student will pick a character. They will have to illustrate and write what is going on in that specific character's head at the point in the novel. \r\n\r\nAt the end of the novel, they will be creating their own \"creature.\" They will have to present this to the class, and explain why they chose the elements they did to create their assignment. \r\n\r\nLastly, after the book is completed, they will begin their senior research paper. I will give them a list of topics (such as nature versus nurture) and they will do independent research for the paper, as well as incorporating the novel. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your donation, because I would be lost without it! I ask for your forgiveness and understanding. \r\n\r\nWith your help, my AP class has truly come to life. We started with Antigone. The students got up and read as their characters. As a class, we dove into mythology history. The students were engaged and extremely interested. \r\n\r\nWe then, and currently, moved into The Poisonwood Bible. The students absolutely love it. One of the projects they just completed is called a \"creative retelling.\" In this project, the students chose a time in the book that the villagers perceived the Prices. Because the book is told in the perspective of the Price girls, their task was to write as someone who lives in the village of Kilanga. They did an amazing job! I am so proud of them, and they truly would not have had access to this book and material without your help! From me, and them, thank you.
