We are currently involved in our novel study unit using this book!\r\n\r\nMy students have been able to utilize their information learned from history and actively understand how prior knowledge can help people comprehend information in fiction. Due to the complexities presented in historical fiction, many students I have taught voice concern with the subject matter if they are not well learned in the history surrounding the events and time period. \r\n\r\nThis unit was a great time to discuss the connection among classes offered in a school; how in society all truly work in tandem to create a whole. Students participated in a hexagonal thinking activity. In the photos you will see students working in groups to link ideas in meaningful ways based on inferences made collaboratively. After each group completed their activity, we did a gallery walk to compare ideas. \r\n\r\nThis unit is still underway as the students are now working on writing strategies to develop a persuasive or argumentative essay based on the work by Esther Forbes.
