When the packages first arrived and we unpacked the gleaming glassware and specialized brushes, my students were absolutely thrilled—they kept saying our room finally felt like a \"real, professional science lab.\" Having proper, durable lab equipment creates an immediate sense of pride and seriousness, transforming their mindset from simply \"doing schoolwork\" to behaving like actual scientists conducting real experiments.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put these tools to work on two unforgettable hands-on projects. First, students used the test tubes and beakers to extract actual DNA from strawberries, carefully layering liquid to watch the white, thread-like DNA strands separate and float to the top. We also used the beakers to soak raw eggs in vinegar over several days, allowing students to observe chemical changes up close as the hard shells completely dissolved, leaving behind translucent, bouncy eggs! Having the specialized cleaning brushes allowed students to take total ownership of their lab stations, carefully washing and prepping their equipment between every step.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to build on what we learned during the egg experiment to investigate cellular osmosis. Students will take their shell-less eggs and place them in different solutions—like corn syrup and colored water—to observe how fluids move across cell membranes. Having enough reliable glassware and proper cleaning tools for every group ensures that every single student gets to run their own measurements and actively participate, rather than just watching from the sidelines. In math and science, abstract concepts like geometry, physical forces, and scale are now tangible lessons they can hold in their hands, test, and refine through trial and error.\r\n\r\nThe sheer excitement when a design starts printing layer by layer is unmatched. What excites the students most is the realization that they can turn a digital sketch into a physical object. There is a magical quality to watching the machine build an item they created from scratch, whether it's a piece for a mechanical project, a custom tool, or a model of a cell. This process teaches them that failure isn't the end of a project—if a print doesn't work, they go back to their design, troubleshoot the measurements, and try again, building genuine resilience alongside technical skills.\r\n\r\nThis technology has particularly empowered students who typically struggle with standard lecture-and-textbook learning. One student in particular, who often hesitated to participate in class discussions, completely blossomed once we introduced 3D modeling software. Possessing incredible spatial reasoning, they quickly became our resident expert, helping classmates fix technical glitches in their design files and guiding group projects. Because of you, our classroom has been buzzing with engagement, collaboration, and hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nThe noise-canceling headphones have made a huge difference for our students. Many of them use the headphones daily, allowing them to focus, stay on task, and feel successful during independent work time.\r\n\r\nOur USA puzzle has quickly become a classroom favorite. Students have challenged each other to races to see who can complete it the fastest, and it has also sparked great conversations as others casually work together putting the pieces in place. It has been wonderful to see learning happen so naturally.\r\n\r\nYour support has also helped us continue our science projects. The chicks are currently using the wood shavings, and we are already preparing for our next round of egg hatching in just a couple of weeks. Additionally, students have begun planting seeds and preparing for our spring gardening. We are excited to use the bamboo stakes and tomato cages as our plants grow and our plans take shape.\r\n\r\nFinally, the Little People, Big Dreams book series has been incredibly popular with our students. The books are constantly being read and reread, and we have even had several students asking if we can get more titles from the series that we do not yet have.
