The closet is open at the request of students, teachers or families! So far, we have had requests come from all three groups! Recently, two different teachers came to me with a concern for the same kindergarten child. They recalled how he had been coming to school in the same dirty clothing, and other students were beginning to notice an odor from him. Some began distancing themselves from him and the teacher noticed the increasing isolation. He was all smiles when I showed him the closet full of hygiene items to meet his needs. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to send that child home with shampoo, conditioner, soap, wash cloth, toothbrush, toothpaste and laundry detergent! The ability for us to see a need, and meet that need the same day is a gift that does not go unnoticed. \r\nAnother fun story is how we were able to use the Care Closet donations as a service project for our Student Leadership Groups. In both buildings, teachers have nominated students who have lacking self-esteem, low motivation, struggling peer relationships or signs of anxiety. I am able to meet with these students weekly to practice and educate on topics like growth mindset, collaboration, perseverance and helping others. One of our special projects was to organize and sort the Care Closet donations. It was beautiful to see how excited these kids got knowing that they were a part of helping those in need. Your generosity allowed these kids to practice helping others too! \r\nAs our closet project continues to gain momentum, our goal moving forward is to increase awareness to families and students, while also reducing the stigma or hesitation that can come with asking for help. Advertising this closet, alongside educating students about healthy habits are the best ways we can ensure these donations are utilized well. \r\nThere are not enough words to communicate our sincerest thanks to your generosity. We understand that every dollar given was a sacrifice on behalf of your family, but please know that those donations are truly bringing joy, care and healthy habits to so many of our students. \r\nThank you.
