Students were visibly excited when they saw the new hands-on materials they were going to use, which immediately increased motivation and enthusiasm for learning. By incorporating multisensory learning experiences, students were better able to connect abstract concepts, such as letter recognition and letter–sound correspondence, to concrete, meaningful activities. As a result, students remained more attentive, particularly those who typically struggle with traditional, paper-and-pencil tasks.\r\n\r\nThe use of tactile and interactive materials, including letter tiles, magnetic boards, sensory bins, and word-building games, allowed students to actively participate in their learning. These materials supported fine motor development while also strengthening memory and retention by engaging multiple senses. Students demonstrated improved ability to identify letters, connect sounds, and begin building simple words with greater independence and accuracy.\r\n\r\nThis project also helped create a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment by meeting the needs of diverse learning styles. Students who benefit from movement, touch, and visual supports were more successful and less frustrated during literacy activities. Overall, the project fostered a literacy-rich classroom where students felt confident taking risks, practicing new skills, and developing foundational pre-reading abilities in an engaging and supportive setting.","fullyFundedDate":1756936953542,"projectUrl":"project/from-abcs-to-words-interactive-literacy/9318569/","projectTitle":"From ABCs to Words: Interactive Literacy Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Drake","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8668640_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y160&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714586271787","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8668640"},{"teacherId":5331373,"projectId":9373811,"letterContent":"Our school appreciates your donations for the Sensory Items that we requested. The Roller is just the sensory break that some of our kids needed!\r\n\r\nThe putty keeps our students' hands busy so they can remain in the classroom and continue learning with other students. This type of fidget works perfectly for some kids to manipulate while listening to instructions or just needing a little outlet.
