Each fall, we gather Monarch caterpillars from local fields and bring them to class to raise and release. We tag the Monarchs with tags through Monarchwatch.org and report our data to them. It's a great project, and the students love it. The excitement shows. By receiving these supplies, we are going to try growing milkweed in the classroom and in a greenhouse being built for our school. I have also started a Monarch habitat at my house to help show them ways to take a small space and create an area for Monarchs to stop in throughout the late summer and fall before their migration starts. I will be showing the students pics and videos of my home garden. \r\nIn these supplies, we also received new containers for raising and transporting Monarchs. Since this project is in its 22nd year in my class, most of our containers have become very worn and need to be replaced. \r\nSince we tag and release our Monarchs and then submit data, we follow through by searching online to see if any of our Monarchs are reported along the way. Along with that, we celebrate Day of the Dead, the first few days of November, when there is a mass entrance of Monarchs in the foothills of the mountains in Mexico. We now have supplies to help with that celebration. Again, thanks so much.","fullyFundedDate":1762787032801,"projectUrl":"project/saving-the-monarchs-and-our-food-supply/9834619/","projectTitle":"Saving the Monarchs and Our Food Supply","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. G.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2810123_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1457878408895","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kathy-gore"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_84736","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":284,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":99,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.5,"schoolId":84736,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rock Hill Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rock Hill Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/rock-hill-local-school-district/rock-hill-middle-school/84736"}
