As soon as I received the gift cards, I purchased the units and got to work! The first unit we did was on apples. The kids learned all about apples, where they come from, the life cycle, vocabulary words that go with apples, and even got to try some different kinds of apples and decide which ones we liked best! At the end of the unit, we got to go to the apple orchard! This was a really awesome experience to watch our students actually know and understand where they were and be excited about being at the orchard since we had spend so much time taking about it! My students have pretty significant disabilities so seeing them be able to make connections from classroom to the real word is really amazing!\r\n\r\nWe are excited for our next unit on pumpkins and ending that with a trip to the pumpkin patch. Toward the end of the year, we are doing a unit on butterflies and getting some caterpillars to watch them grow and change in real life along with our unit. The last unit we will do will be on fire fighters and community helpers and we will go on our last field trip to the fire station! Another unit we are looking forward to is our transportation unit. This wasn't one I had planned for this year but I have a student who loves all things transportation so I decided to switch out on of the ones I was originally going to do! It is so awesome that we are able to tailor these units to our students likes, interests, and real world activities! \r\n\r\nAnother exciting thing we got to introduce this year is interactive books using technology! We don't typically use individual technology with our students but these interactive books have given us an opportunity to use technology in an appropriate way for our kiddos! \r\n\r\nThank you again so much for your generosity!
