The Smartboard has become more than technology hanging in our classroom. It has become an interactive business learning tool that allows my 9th and 10th grade Junior CEOs to see, discuss, analyze, and experience the concepts we are learning. We use the Smartboard to examine real businesses, analyze brands, model financial decisions, brainstorm business ideas, review marketing strategies, participate in interactive lessons, and practice professional presentations. Instead of me simply telling students what entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, and career readiness look like, I can now create opportunities for them to see it, interact with it, and apply it.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite experiences has been using the Smartboard while students develop their own business concepts. We can put an example on the screen, break it apart together, discuss what works and what does not, and then students can immediately apply that thinking to their own businesses and portfolios. When students first saw the Smartboard, there was an immediate excitement because they knew something new was coming to our classroom. That excitement gave me another opportunity to remind them that this classroom belongs to them too. I want them to walk into the CEO Classroom and feel like they are entering a space designed for creativity, collaboration, innovation, and BIG ideas. My students deserve opportunities to experience business, not just read about it.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use the Smartboard even more intentionally as students move through hands-on entrepreneurship projects and real-world business simulations. My Junior CEOs will continue developing business portfolios, creating brands, making budgeting and financial decisions, analyzing target markets, developing marketing strategies, and preparing professional business pitches. They will also use the Smartboard to present their work, receive feedback, revise their ideas, and practice communicating like young professionals. Due to your generosity, I am able to transform business education from something students simply study into something they can actually experience. You did not simply provide my classroom with a Smartboard. Thank you for investing in my students and helping me transform our classroom into the CEO Classroom. Thanks to your funding, I was able to rebuild an empty classroom into a corporate office where my students can thrive and become the Junior CEO that is resting inside them. \r\n\r\nIn this professional business learning environment, my Junior CEOs can collaborate, create, problem-solve, and take ownership of their learning. Your generosity provided our classroom with a touch screen Smartboard, mobile whiteboard, dry-erase markers and erasers, poster boards, tri-fold boards, name plates and holders, index cards, Post-it Notes, binders, and composition notebooks. These are not simply classroom supplies. Each resource has become part of how my students experience business instead of just reading about it. \r\n\r\nThe Smartboard and mobile whiteboard allow us to model business concepts, brainstorm ideas, analyze real companies, practice financial literacy, and collaborate as a team. We were able to use the smartboard to view Shark Tank episodes and watch how young entrepreneurs pitch their business to investors and provide a visual presentation to illustrate business concepts in alignment to the paper handouts on their table. \r\n\r\nStudents use their binders and composition notebooks to develop business portfolios, while the index cards and Post-it Notes are used for pitching ideas, market research, brainstorming, exit tickets, and collaborative planning.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments has been watching students use the poster boards and tri-fold boards to take a business idea from something they imagined to something they could actually present. Students developed brands, identified target customers, created logos and marketing strategies, considered the value their businesses would provide, and prepared to pitch their ideas. When the materials arrived, my students were excited because they could immediately see that our classroom was becoming something different. The name plates and holders may seem like a small detail, but in our CEO Classroom they reinforce something much bigger. Students are not just sitting at desks. They are Junior CEOs, and their ideas, voices, and contributions have value.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on these experiences through entrepreneurship projects, business simulations, financial literacy activities, leadership opportunities, and career readiness experiences. Students will continue developing their business portfolios, creating business models, designing marketing materials, analyzing financial decisions, and practicing professional presentations. \r\n\r\nMy goal is for students to leave this classroom understanding that entrepreneurship and leadership are not concepts reserved for someone else. They are skills they can begin developing right now. Thanks to the Charles Schwab Foundation's investment, my students have more than new resources. They have new opportunities to see themselves as creators, innovators, leaders, and future entrepreneurs.
