One of our favorite moments so far was during our \"All About Me\" unit. The children used the colorful construction paper, crayons, markers, and glue sticks to create self-portraits. They carefully chose colors for their hair, skin, and clothing, then added details with the new oil pastels. Seeing them so focused and proud of their work was pure magic. These materials are also perfect for our sensory and fine-motor stations—cutting, tearing, gluing, and drawing are helping little hands grow stronger every day Their eyes lit up the moment I opened the boxes! There were gasps, cheers, and lots of \"Can we use them right now?!\" One little one immediately reached for the bright markers and said, \"These are the prettiest colors I've ever seen!\" Another student gently stroked the construction paper and whispered, \"It's so soft.\" The excitement was contagious, everyone wanted to touch, choose colors, and get started right away. It felt like Christmas morning in our classroom! Next, we are diving into our \"Seasons and Nature\" unit. The students will use the new supplies to create seasonal collages—fall leaves, winter snow scenes, spring flowers, and summer sunshine. We'll also start a class mural where each child contributes a piece of artwork that represents something they love about the outdoors. These projects will give them more opportunities to practice cutting, gluing, and color mixing while building vocabulary and storytelling skills. Your support has truly transformed parts of our classroom into spaces where my students (many with autism and sensory processing needs) can regulate, engage, and learn more effectively. Here's how we're using the new materials and some specific moments that have made a big difference.\r\n\r\nThe bouncy board has been a game-changer for one of my students with autism who often has a lot of built-up energy and finds it hard to stay seated during lessons. He used to fidget constantly or get overwhelmed, but now he takes quick \"bounce breaks\" on the board jumping, balancing, or just rocking gently. It helps him release that excess energy, reduce anxiety, and return to his work with better focus. One moment was during a lesson he worked independently on the board practicing sorting on the bouncy board, he remained calm, and attended to the task independently!! Which is so huge for him!\r\n\r\nWe've also set up a cozy calming corner with the soft pillow and some other comforting items. This has become a safe space where any student feeling overwhelmed can go to self-regulate without leaving the room. Students curl up on the pillow, hug it tight, or just lie there with dimmed lights and quiet music. It's helped de-escalate moments quickly several kids now ask to use it proactively when they feel \"too much\" coming on, which is huge progress in emotional awareness. One student who rarely spoke up about his feelings recently said, \"I need my pillow spot,\" and after a short time there, he rejoined the group ready to participate. It's empowering for them to have that control.\r\n\r\nThe light tiles are a favorite for sensory input and engagement across the board. We use them during transitions, small-group activities, or as a reward.
