Instead of a meltdown, he went straight to the calm-down area, grabbed a liquid sensory jar, and sat quietly watching the colorful bubbles float to the bottom while using the sensory board to self-soothe. Within five minutes, his body was calm, he was smiling, and he was ready to rejoin his friends at center choices. We use these when we read the books and use them to help children identify their emotions when they are upset. \r\n\r\nWhen I read these books to my class. All of my students sit together on the carpet and are fully engaged in the story. They follow along and predict what might happen next.
