We've started incorporating structured mindfulness and movement breaks, giving students a safe space to decompress and reset. One meaningful moment occurred during a guided breathing and grounding activity—students who typically struggle with focus or behavior were noticeably calmer, more present, and willing to participate. It created a shift in the room that allowed for more productive learning and positive interactions.\r\n\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the materials, their reactions were a mix of excitement and curiosity. For many, this was something new and different from their typical classroom experience. The yoga mats quickly became a symbol of a \"cool-down zone,\" and students began to associate them with feeling safe and supported. The SEL tools opened the door for honest conversations about emotions, triggers, and coping strategies—topics that are especially important for our at-risk population.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to build consistency with these practices by embedding SEL into our daily routines and academic lessons. Students are beginning to take ownership of their emotional regulation by identifying their needs and choosing strategies that work best for them. Our next steps include reflective journaling, goal-setting, and small group discussions focused on resilience and decision-making. Your support is helping us create not just a classroom, but a space where students feel seen, valued, and equipped with skills that extend far beyond school.","fullyFundedDate":1762267746416,"projectUrl":"project/safety-is-the-key-to-productive-citizens/9807157/","projectTitle":"Safety is the Key to Productive Citizenship","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5945111"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_83700","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":193,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":97,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.5,"schoolId":83700,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about W.H.
