They kept asking for materials, but I explained they had to problem solve with the materials they have been given. We also use the book during small-group reading rotations, where students practice fluency by reading aloud, retelling the story using sequence words, and connecting the text to their own holiday experiences.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially fallen in love with this book. One of my emerging readers, who has been hesitant to read aloud, now eagerly volunteers to share his favorite page every day. Another student, who adores anything related to holidays and humor, has been inspired to write her own \"How to Catch...\" stories during our writing block.
