Your generosity gave my students the opportunity to read a powerful story that opened their eyes to a part of history they had not fully understood before.\r\n\r\nAs we read Copper Sun, many students began to realize just how horrific and inhumane the transatlantic slave trade truly was. While they had learned about slavery in the past, reading the experiences of characters in the novel made the history feel much more real and personal. Their eyes were opened to the cruelty, suffering, and loss experienced by enslaved people, and the book led to some incredibly meaningful conversations in our classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts was hearing students say that they wanted to learn more. Several students became interested in reading other books about slavery and this period of history because Copper Sun sparked their curiosity and encouraged them to look beyond what they already knew.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than put a book into a student's hands. It gave students an opportunity to develop empathy, ask difficult questions, deepen their understanding of history, and become more thoughtful readers and learners.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this experience possible. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our classroom and, most importantly, on our students.
