Many students with special needs can better access the general education curriculum when they have seating that meets their needs. I have been able to allow students to sit on the floor on cushions and the chairs with lap tables. I have also been able to have my students who have Autism and stim, along with students who struggle to sit still due to ADHD, sit on the wobble pads. These seating options have really allowed them to better stay on task during instruction. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were all asking to use the seats. I had to create a system on who would uses them at different times. This is why I have created another donors choose posting for more flexible seating. When I listed this at the end of last year I had less special needs students. This year we have many more and my classroom would really benefit from some more options. \r\n\r\nRight now the students have been working on Light and Sound. We have been building Stem Challenge Boxes. The challange is to use materials to created a house that will stay as cool as possible in the sun. I have placed heat lights in the room and we place them under the lights and measure them at different intervals. Since they are working in groups the floor pads have been amazing for students to sit on the floor and build the the boxes in groups. \r\nAgain I really appreciate the support for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1760711134259,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-neurodivergent-stud/9473223/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for Neurodivergent Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yarbour","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10082569_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760785900925","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10082569"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_85824","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":350,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":79,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":28.9,"schoolId":85824,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Schumacher Community Learning Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Schumacher Community Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/akron-public-schools/schumacher-academy/85824"}
