While digital books are becoming more and more popular, they are not always helpful to students who are learning how to comprehend deeply. My students love being able to physically highlight, add sticky notes to pages that seem important, and look at the hard copy of text as they struggle to find evidence to answer questions and cite evidence from the text. \r\n\r\nAll of my classes have had multiple students mention that they love not having to scroll to find a specific page or try to add a digital note in the margins. They have digital textbooks and find these tasks challenging on the computer. Often, their digital notes do not save correctly and they feel defeated. Paper copies of texts mean that it is so much easier to see how much they have read already and how the text connects to concepts like characterization and symbolism. \r\n\r\nMy students who are frequently absent particularly love having enough copies that they can take one home to use to catch up. Previously, this was impossible because I only had enough for my largest class and could not afford to loan any copies out.","fullyFundedDate":1779217664201,"projectUrl":"project/closing-the-gap-one-book-at-a-time/10186197/","projectTitle":"Closing the Gap One Book at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Noland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10476454"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_85806","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":903,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":58,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":10,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":65.2,"schoolId":85806,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Garfield Community Learning Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Garfield Community Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/akron-public-schools/kenmore-high-school/85806"}
