My students were so excited to receive the crayons and colored pencils when they arrived. I was thrilled to pass out their new crayons with storage boxes and colored pencils. The pure joy on their faces was inspiring.\r\n\r\nWe got right to work on our first science unit where students used their imaginations and created a drawing of what they would build during our unit on engineering. The students shared with one another and then spent the next two days using the Legos you provided, straws, and connector pieces to build their designs.\r\n\r\nSocial studies was much more engaging due to the fact all students had the supplies they needed to color, cut, and glue pictures for sorting activities for our unit on \"Rules and Laws\". It brought social studies to life for my students.\r\n\r\nI am looking forward to doing our \"Life Cycles\" unit this spring. We order caterpillars and the students draw and write in journals their observations of the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. As a teacher you want to see your kids do their best and it is hard to do your best when you don't have the essential tools for basic learning.
