I have been organizing the materials so that students will be able to access a variety of sensory tools based on their needs. My goal for the space is to provide students with a safe space to regulate their emotions, practice using coping strategies, and take a break when they are overwhelmed. \r\n\r\nAlthough my students have not returned to school yet, I have already seen how much these materials have transformed my space. While I was unpacking and organizing everything, I could imagine how these resources would positively impact my students and allow them to find the tools that work best for them. I am especially excited to show the sensory workspace to students who may feel overwhelmed or overstimulated during the school day. This space will allow them to take a break and learn how that impacts their success at school.\r\n\r\nOnce the school year begins, my next step will be to introduce students to my counseling office and sensory workspace. I plan to teach students about how to appropriately use those spaces and resources. I plan to incorporate the materials into individual and small-group counseling sessions and lessons to help students learn more about their individual needs.
