With the materials from this project, our classes came together to design, plant, and care for a shared garden space. For many of our students, this was their very first experience planting seeds, watching them sprout, and learning how daily care can lead to growth.\r\n\r\nThe garden quickly became more than just a science project—it turned into a gathering place where students collaborated across classrooms, problem-solved together, and celebrated their successes. It has given us a hands-on way to connect our science and literacy lessons to the real world while fostering social-emotional skills like patience and cooperation.\r\n\r\nOur students are so proud of what they've created, and it's clear that this garden will continue to impact them well beyond this year. Because of you, my students now have engaging novels in their hands that spark curiosity, imagination, and a love of reading.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in our classroom was immediate—students couldn't wait to dive into the stories together. For many of them, this was their very first experience holding their own copy of a class novel, and it has completely changed the way they approach reading. Instead of passively listening, my students are following along, annotating, and sharing their own predictions and connections. It has been incredible to watch reluctant readers light up because they finally feel part of the story.\r\n\r\nThese books have also allowed me to create meaningful lessons in vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking that go far beyond a single text. Students are practicing how to discuss characters' choices, explore themes, and even compare the novels to their own lives. The impact goes beyond academics—reading as a community has given my students confidence in their voices and a stronger bond with one another.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe new social-emotional learning books and activities have given my students the tools to pause, reflect, and work through their feelings in positive ways. We've been able to use the stories during morning meetings and small group discussions, and I've watched students begin to reference the lessons on empathy, kindness, and self-regulation in their own interactions. The calming activities provide a safe outlet when emotions run high, and I've noticed students returning to class feeling more focused and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom feels more connected and supportive. Many of the texts also help us dive into deeper discussions about themes like friendship, perseverance, and kindness. These stories are great tools for helping students connect literature to their own lives while also developing critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nWhat does reading look like in your classroom?\r\nReading in our classroom is an exciting mix of cozy corners, partner reading, small group discussions, and independent reflection. You'll often find students curled up in flexible seating, jotting notes on sticky tabs, or sharing their favorite parts with a friend. We focus on reading with purpose—whether it's practicing fluency in a group, tackling new vocabulary, or analyzing the author's message. There's a buzz of excitement during reading time, and the energy is contagious!\r\n\r\nAre there particular students who are especially enjoying the new books, and how so?\r\nAbsolutely! One student who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time has found a favorite series among the new books and now begs for more reading time. Another student, who is working on building fluency, has become more confident by rereading high-interest texts at her level. These books have opened doors for students who hadn't seen themselves as \"readers\" before—now they're recommending books to each other and asking thoughtful questions during class discussions.
