I have a very limited window to teach each concept every year. That window is never long enough for most of my kids to show true mastery of certain concepts such as adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. \r\n\r\nThis is where Daily Math comes in. This book provides me with practice of concepts that need extra time in a way that I can give two-three problems a day to kids throughout the year. It does not take a lot of time to do. I can easily see what misunderstandings I need to clarify. The kids get consistent practice with concepts for a longer period of time which brings true mastery of the concept. It's wonderful!\r\n\r\nThis Daily Math book is also the best I've seen that directly ties to the standards I teacher. I have used it for years! It's not always about getting a 100% either. Sometimes it's the child that keeps failing a concept but never gives up and then one magical day it all clicks and they get a passing grade. It's exciting! It's worth celebrating! Getting that extra recognition from the teacher is just the cherry on top.\r\n\r\nIt says to the child that their hard work has been noticed. It was a bittersweet day to say the least. Many were ready to fly! Some just wanted more time with us. But in the end. they all went with a little piece of our hearts and a token of our appreciation thanks to you.\r\n\r\nWe were able to give them all some Elementary swag: fidgets, stickers, color changing cups, and of course some of their favorite candy. They loved it! A few left with out it, not realizing, but soon came back for a final hug and to grab their swag.\r\n\r\nWhat's been really nice is that many of our kids have come back this fall to say hello. Whether they have come to evening school events, or emailed us. I love that. This year has been absolutely wonderful in terms of meeting my students graph paper needs!\r\n\r\nSo many teachers laughed at me when several reams of paper were delivered to my door. The fools (lol). Do you know I only have two packs left now that it is May??? I can't believe it! Before you ask, no not a single sheet was wasted. We had a serious talk at the beginning of the year about where this paper came from and what it was for. The kids found it so helpful that they truly used it responsibly. \r\n\r\nWe have worked HARD this year! I am proud of the academic gains. I am proud of how far they have come in terms of perseverance. I am relieved to have not once this year having to say we need conserve paper. This is a big deal because sometimes it legitimately a full side of a sheet of graph paper to solve a word problem when you have five steps involved and you made a mistake and need to correct yourself with a little extra work.\r\n\r\nI really appreciate the support and my students do as well!","fullyFundedDate":1723637859600,"projectUrl":"project/lets-graph-it/8466716/","projectTitle":"Let's Graph it!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sullivan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3008623_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1542329434586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msthomasresources"},{"teacherId":3008623,"projectId":8284912,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your kind donation. I know it's been awhile and I apologize. However, I assure you your donation has been the highlight of our year! When I announce that it is a prize jar assignment, it really does give that extra push to most of the kids. It slows them down a little. It helps them remember to highlight key details. It magically helps them think about what the question is actually asking and to persevere. \r\n\r\nTo be fair, I never make the criteria the same for what earns you a trip to the jar. I have some students who would never make it if I only sent them for A's. Therefore, we work for a personal best. Or strive for overcoming a challenge. \r\n\r\nThis morning I had a child with special needs come in sobbing after a rough morning at home. We took care of his emotional needs and then focused on the academic. He did really well on his math. Though is was not a prize jar day, I let him go anyway. He needed a little pick me up.\r\n\r\nThe child next to him quietly came up to me stating he'd done well too, could he go?
