This project is designed to create a classroom where students learn at their own pace and become independent learners. In order to do that, we need materials that will improve student engagement and foster each learning style.
Centers, centers, centers! My students will be in literacy centers for a good portion of the day. During this time, they are independently working on a given activity. My students need basic materials such as dry erase markers, construction paper, and playdough to enhance their fine motor skills in developing letters and numbers. Hands-on activities allow students to show me they understand something by doing instead of telling.
Student engagement is also very important! With the pocket chart and pocket chart stand, my students will be able to interact with hands on activities dealing with making words, arranging letters or numbers, and creating sentences. I plan to use the dry erase easel (Best-Rite Eco Easel, Double Sided Dry Erase) and chart paper to create anchor charts to organize thinking in writing and comprehension activities.
