Your support has allowed many of my students that have limited verbal abilities or that are completely nonverbal, the ablility to enjoy books that they previously would have not had access to. My students especially love the seasonal books and are excited to be able to answer questions and participate in book activities the same as their nondisabled peers at the start of each new season or holiday.\r\n\r\nThese materials have allowed me to adapt these books by printing book companions that have pictures to go along with each page of the book. The velcro that you provided was used in the books, so that my students are able to pick the picture that matches the page or answer any comprehension questions about the book. The laminating sheets are priceless because they will ensure that these materials last for years to come. I have been able to laminate all the pictures and book companions for each of the books that you provided and it has been life changing for me and my students. \r\n\r\nThese materials are allowing students that previously were unable to participate in reading activities fully, the opportunity to do so. It is allowing my students to show the knowledge that they have effectively, in a different way. I am thankful for your donation and know that your kindness will impact the lives of many other students that I will share the magic of reading with for many years to come. I appreciate all that you have done to make this project amazing and create a reader in all learners with all kinds of abilities.","fullyFundedDate":1746479319727,"projectUrl":"project/communication-looks-different-for-everyo/8970528/","projectTitle":"Communication Looks Different for Everyone","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heather Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp87719_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715017004525","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/87719"},{"teacherId":3473517,"projectId":8938051,"letterContent":"First off, please let me say thank you so much! The students and I loved this experience you provided!\r\nThe students' and janitors' faces (who delivered on a hand truck to the classroom) when I shared with them what was in the boxes was priceless! It went from looks of horror to looks of excitement. \r\nMy 71 students and I used the dissection sets to focus on a number of science standards. During the dissection of the hearts, we discussed the heart as the main organ of the circulatory/cardiovascular system. Also, focusing on the parts of the heart (chambers, valves, etc) allowed us to discuss how that the heart was utilized by the respiratory system to provide oxygen for the cells and remove carbon dioxide. As an involuntary, cardiac muscle, the heart also allowed discussion on this muscle being controlled by the nervous system to perform its specialized task. \r\nBy having the various types of hearts (cow, sheep, and pig) provided with this project, we were also able to discuss the inherited traits of the organization (cell - tissue-organ- system- organism) of various mammals. \r\nI was so grateful to have this resource to allow modeling of these standards, as we need to integrate with the new science standards!\r\nOn a personal note, I absolutely loved watching the children's faces as they were able to experience something so hands-on and outside of their \"typical\" days.\r\nIn the future, we intend to develop on this, when the local community college EMT program comes later in the year. They have stated that they will show the students how blood flows through the heart (and is impacted by cholesterol deposits) by inserting an IV flow into the hearts!\r\nOnce again, thank you so much from the \"bottom of our hearts\" for this wonderful contribution! You truly made an impact on these students, as can be shown by the attached photos and the growth I saw on their assessments after this activity!","fullyFundedDate":1733171948952,"projectUrl":"project/dissecting-our-new-standards/8938051/","projectTitle":"Dissecting our New Standards","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. H.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3473517_orig.jpg?crop=392,392,x0,y128&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1663006824775","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3473517"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3659","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":436,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.6,"schoolId":3659,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mountain View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mountain View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wilkes-county-school-district/mountain-view-elementary-school/3659"}
