This week, every student in our school has had a hand in creating it. From our youngest kindergarteners to our fifth graders, each grade level has helped make decisions, solve problems, and bring the garden to life.\r\n\r\nKindergarten students talked about what a garden needs and what they would want in the space. First graders created garden layouts, second graders explored ways to attract pollinators, third graders selected seeds to plant, and fourth graders drew scaled blueprints.\r\n\r\nOur fifth graders took on some of the biggest jobs. They inventoried the supplies, organized materials, and actually built the raised garden beds using real tools. They were so proud to be trusted with such an important part of the project, and it was wonderful to watch them work together, problem-solve, and see the beds come together right in front of them.\r\n\r\nWe were also incredibly lucky to have soil donated by a local company, so the beds are now filled and ready for planting!\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project especially meaningful is that the garden truly belongs to our whole school. Every student has contributed in some way, and now they will all get to watch their work grow. Next, students will begin planting the seeds they selected, caring for the garden, and continuing to use the space for science, math, creativity, and hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create something that our entire school community can be proud of.
