The stories give my students a meaningful and engaging way to learn about social-emotional skills while seeing those skills modeled through characters and situations they can relate to.\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive. As we read, we stop to talk about how characters are feeling, what might be causing those feelings, and what they can do to manage them. We also discuss kindness, sharing, taking turns, solving problems, using words to communicate, and ways to be a kind friend. These conversations help students build vocabulary for their emotions and begin to recognize and understand both their own feelings and the feelings of others.\r\nThese books also give us opportunities to practice important friendship skills. Students can talk about what they would do in a similar situation, think of different ways to solve a problem, and learn that it is okay to have strong feelings while still making safe and kind choices. We often connect the stories to situations that happen in our own classroom, helping students understand how they can use these skills with their friends throughout the school day. Thank you for helping us make social-emotional learning a meaningful part of our everyday classroom experience.","fullyFundedDate":1787585363376,"projectUrl":"project/stories-that-help-every-child-grow/10359395/","projectTitle":"Stories That Help Every Child Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10541161_orig.jpg?crop=1399,1399,x96,y30&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782775950346","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10541161"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134728","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":88.2,"schoolId":134728,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pleasant Plains Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pleasant Plains Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/pleasant-plains-elementary-school/134728"}
