As their teacher, I felt so proud and happy to see their excitement, confidence, and willingness to keep learning. It was a wonderful reminder that even a small reward can make a big difference in motivating children.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were thrilled and eager to use them. They became more excited about completing their math assignments, paying attention, and doing their best. They especially looked forward to earning their star stickers and receiving a special treat, along with 20 minutes of break time to enjoy their reward. This gave them something positive to work toward and encouraged them to stay focused and put more effort into their work.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these resources to make math lessons more engaging, fun, and rewarding. I want my students to understand that learning takes effort and that every step forward is worth celebrating. We will continue practicing math skills, building confidence, and encouraging one another. I am so grateful to our donors for making this possible. Composition notebooks, paper, pencils, scissors, and other classroom supplies have made this the most effective year of using interactive notebooks because every student is prepared and able to fully participate. Students enjoy coming into class, getting their materials, and immediately getting started instead of having to worry about whether they have a pencil, paper, or notebook. The \"Take What You Need\" items, including snacks, ChapStick, and feminine hygiene products, have also been incredibly beneficial. Students know they can quietly take what they need without embarrassment or missing valuable instructional time. Seeing students feel comfortable enough to use these resources and then confidently get back to learning has been one of the most rewarding parts of this project.\r\n\r\nBecause we are an Academy of Arts & Design, these materials have also given students more opportunities to be creative and demonstrate their learning in different ways. We have already completed two arts and design projects this school year—and we are only a month and a half into the school year! My students were so excited when they first saw the materials and immediately wanted to know when they could begin creating. They love having opportunities to move beyond traditional worksheets and use art and design to show what they understand. Right now, we are continuing our study of The Lightning Thief and mythology, connecting the novel to informational texts about the key elements of mythology and analyzing myths such as Cronus and Prometheus. Students are using their interactive notebooks to collect evidence, make connections between texts, determine themes, and prepare for written responses and future creative projects.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these donations have helped create a classroom environment where students feel prepared, supported, and cared for. Whether they need a pencil to complete an assignment, a notebook to record their thinking, a snack to help them stay focused, or a personal care item to feel comfortable throughout the school day, they know that their needs matter.
