Some of my students come from home situations that are transient, not an individual space for themselves, or a less-than-ideal setting to be able to come to school in the morning focused and ready to go. They strive for comfort, organization, and consistency. The classroom decorations received have helped my classroom turn into a comforting room with a \"homey\" feel. It has become a safe space for kids to not only be in during class, but also to come in during lunch and have some quiet time to get work done that they may not be able to at home. The bins and storage have really helped with the flow of classroom activities. A lot of kids lose things when bringing it home. It has helped me create spaces within the classroom where students can keep their interactive notebooks and supplies to be prepared and organized for class each day. I was also able to purchase snacks for the room, which is a constant request. These kids are not asking for candy, they want things like fruit and crackers which is a testament to their issues with food insecurity.
