They've quickly become one of the most valued pieces of flexible seating in our classroom. The stools help students stay focused while giving them the freedom to move during lessons. They use them daily during small group work and collaborative projects, and I often hear, \"Can I use a wobble stool today?\" It's wonderful to see them so engaged and comfortable while learning.\r\n\r\nThe addition of A Long Walk to Water has also made a lasting impact. Having a copy of the novel in their hands during our read-alouds helped them connect more deeply with the story. We all gasped when Salva lost his uncle and cried with joy when the two main characters met at the end, it was such a powerful moment. To make our reading even more interactive, I created a \"Fear Factor\" challenge where students worked together to answer comprehension questions about the book.\r\n\r\nThese resources have truly transformed our classroom into a more flexible, collaborative, and emotionally connected space. Thank you for supporting my students and helping them learn in ways that inspire empathy, curiosity, and teamwork every day.","fullyFundedDate":1755710548709,"projectUrl":"project/from-page-to-possibility-flexible-seati/9580918/","projectTitle":"From Page to Possibility: Flexible Seating and Novel Study","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Egan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1587094_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y331&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726321223526","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1587094"},{"teacherId":9471066,"projectId":9357305,"letterContent":"Thanks to your support! We recently completed a data analysis and probability unit, and your contribution allowed us to turn abstract concepts into a tangible, memorable learning experience.\r\n\r\nWhen I first revealed the boxes of Skittles to the class, the room absolutely lit up with excitement. Some students gasped, others cheered, and a few immediately asked, \"Are we really allowed to eat these?\" They were thrilled, but also curious — they knew there had to be a learning twist! That enthusiasm carried over into the lesson as we began sorting, counting, and analyzing the colorful candies. It was truly one of those magical teaching moments where the joy of learning was palpable in the classroom.\r\n\r\nFor our main project, students worked in small groups to conduct a statistical investigation using the Skittles. Each group received a bag and began by sorting the candies by color. From there, they created frequency tables and bar graphs to represent their data. Students calculated percentages, found mean, median, and mode, and made predictions about the distribution of colors in future bags. This activity allowed us to meet several key math standards in data analysis and probability, but more importantly, it made those standards meaningful and accessible to all learners.\r\n\r\nOne especially memorable moment came when a student who usually struggles with math excitedly exclaimed, \"I finally understand how to make a graph!\" She proudly presented her group's chart to the class and explained their results with confidence. Seeing that level of engagement and self-assurance was a powerful reminder of the impact hands-on, real-world materials can have on learning.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're building on this momentum with a deeper dive into probability. Students are now using their Skittles data to make and test predictions. For instance, we've posed questions like: \"If we randomly pull one candy from a bag, what is the likelihood it's red?\" and \"How do the probabilities change if we remove certain colors?\" They're exploring both theoretical and experimental probability, collecting data from multiple trials, and even creating probability games using the Skittles. The materials you provided continue to serve as a valuable, multi-use tool in our classroom.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks, students will compile their findings into a mini-project that includes written explanations, visual data displays, and personal reflections. They'll present their work to the class, giving them an opportunity to practice public speaking and explain their mathematical thinking — an essential skill in today's curriculum.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support. Your donation has made a lasting difference in our classroom, not only by enhancing our lessons but by showing students that learning can be fun, engaging, and meaningful. You've helped us build confidence, curiosity, and community — all with a simple, sweet treat.","fullyFundedDate":1722457042951,"projectUrl":"project/math-in-color/8470167/","projectTitle":"Math in Color!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barnes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9576821"},{"teacherId":9800774,"projectId":8938609,"letterContent":"Thank you for all the support and donations.
