As we read, students will practice listening and comprehension, building vocabulary, making predictions, identifying characters and settings, retelling stories, making connections, and understanding the beginning, middle, and end of a story. Most importantly, these books help children see that reading can be exciting, meaningful, and fun!\r\n\r\nReading is a big part of our day! We gather together for read-aloud time where students listen, make predictions, discuss the story, and share their thinking. We also use books during learning centers, small groups, and independent exploration. I love watching students look through books, talk about the pictures, retell familiar stories, and proudly share what they have learned. These experiences help build confidence as they grow into young readers.\r\n\r\nAll of my students are excited about having new books to explore! Some students immediately choose a new book during center time, while others love listening to the stories during our whole group read-aloud. I especially enjoy seeing students who may be hesitant readers become curious about a book because of its colorful pictures, fun characters, or engaging story.
