His mother would tell us he speaks and communicates at home, but we never had any luck, despite our attempts. We tried communication cards, low-tech AAC options, basic sign language, and communication buttons- nothing engaged him. This student also struggles with intense and aggressive behavioral outbursts, so his lack of intentional communication was quickly exasperating for everyone. It's hard seeing a child so young be so frequently and intensely distraught while not being able to understand or soothe them.\r\n\r\nSince getting our AAC devices, this student's language has blossomed. He is providing yes/no responses to preferential questions, he's exploring his voice at school now, and has even requested a break when frustrated thanks to this device. It is such a blessing to see this student suddenly become interested in communicating with us, and it's because of the higher-tech AAC options we were provided from your financial sacrifice. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving my students the gift of intentional communication. I never could've afforded it and resources are limited, so to see this specific student's behavior pivot and to get a glimpse inside his mind is something I wasn't sure I'd ever have the fortune of seeing. All of my students participate in usage of the device, but the student I mentioned previously has benefitted massively from it. The donations made that led us to attain our AAC devices changed his school career in the best way, I can't wait to continue watching him grow and to support him along the way.","fullyFundedDate":1767142794621,"projectUrl":"project/aac-speech-devices/9936961/","projectTitle":"AAC Speech Devices","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. White","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10364840_orig.jpg?crop=839,839,x261,y517&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768504311388","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10364840"},{"teacherId":6594510,"projectId":9171776,"letterContent":"My 4th grade students have been using the Makedo tools to help them as they cut cardboard to build a mini-museum for our classes. Their eyes lit up when I brought the tools out and where like \"What are these?!?\" As soon as I showed them how the tools worked they started working together to assemble pieces and on a different day to cut pieces for building the furniture in the museum. I have future plans for other grades to use the tools to cut cardboard to create collaborative cities out.\r\n\r\nWhen I assembled and put the looms out for the first time in different classes, immediately students wanted to touch and ask about them. We have only began with the choice of community weaving as a choice on our Open Studio days, but there are always multiple students who want to try them out and experiment with different materials that are out. Some students remembered when we they did weaving in previous years on smaller looms and for some students it was a new experience. Their joy and curiosity was contagious and I can't wait to see how the final pieces look. These different tools have given my students a chance to explore sculpture and fibers more independently and I am so grateful for the donations.","fullyFundedDate":1742217352667,"projectUrl":"project/cardboard-sculptures-and-classroom-weavi/9171776/","projectTitle":"Cardboard Sculptures and Classroom Weaving: Let Creativity Spring Forth","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Butler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6594510_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y83&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741917077463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6594510"},{"teacherId":9085701,"projectId":9618037,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. The excitement on my students' faces when we unpacked the headphones, Sharpies, bond paper, fidget toys, timer, and holders was priceless. One student looked at the new supplies and said, \"It feels like everything is made just for us!\"\r\n\r\nThe headphones are now a daily tool during independent learning whether it's reading, practicing with educational apps, or calming music during writing time. The headphone and calculator holders have helped us keep our workspace tidy and accessible, which has made transitions smoother and reduced distractions. The timer is a classroom favorite for managing centers and encouraging time management, and the fidget toys are quietly supporting students who need movement to stay focused. As for the Sharpies and bond paper they've been fueling everything from creative writing and poster-making to colorful brainstorming sessions and student-made flashcards. \r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just provide paper and supplies it brought joy, creativity, and a sense of wonder to our learning environment. You all have blessed not only my classroom, but the NC Pre-k classroom here at Northwest. When we opened up the boxes in the classroom their reaction were priceless. Everyone was screaming and clapping when they saw me pull out those orange cap and gowns. They were like \" Mrs. Holloway we get to wear those!\" I replied \"yes\". They were so happy that they were going to look nice like some of their older sibling looked for their high school graduations. It was such a heart felt moment. \r\nWhat really topped the cake was when I opened up the box that had the Caps for Sale books inside. Immediately my class started yelling, \"Caps for Sale yeaaaa!\" This was one of our favorite books from our Kindergarten Literacy Program that we use to help introduce students to books and reading. \r\nWith the the cap and gowns that were donated I was able to have a graduation program for my parents and students. The parent's were so happy that they were able to see their little graduates in cap and gowns. In the past this was not available for the classroom room teachers' to use. Due to your donations, there is now a set of cap and gowns that will stay at the school to be used for many, many years. The Cap's for Sale Books that was donated I was able to use in class as apart of program to introduce reading and I was able to bless my student's with the book as a gift so that they are able to continue to read it over the summer with their parents. Again, I can not say thank you enough for what you have done for my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1742904702251,"projectUrl":"project/operation-pre-k-graduation/9191112/","projectTitle":"Operation Pre-K Graduation","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holloway","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9972498_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y373&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742564207596","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9972498"},{"teacherId":4818377,"projectId":2808467,"letterContent":"Students love the excitement of Science.
