The arrival of Holes, The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963, and Freak the Mighty has brought so much excitement to our classroom community.\r\nWe are currently in the middle of reading Holes, and the impact of having physical, matching books for every student is already showing. My students are completely hooked on the mystery of Camp Green Lake. In fact, many of my students who normally prefer to read graphic novels are the ones most captivated by this text. They are so eager to find out what happens next that it is driving them crazy to only read a couple of chapters per day! They are already asking when we get to start The Watsons Go to Birmingham and Freak the Mighty later this year.\r\nSeeing that spark of pure anticipation and reading endurance is exactly why these resources matter so much. Having organized book baskets encourages students to explore different books, practice reading independently, and develop confidence in their reading skills.\r\nThe new organization has also helped our classroom run more smoothly each day. Students know where materials belong and can easily return books and classroom items when they are finished.
