The impact was immediate. My students were genuinely excited to see the new titles, flip through the pages, talk about which books they wanted to read, and ask when we could begin using them. Seeing sixth graders excited about reading is incredibly meaningful, especially because students enter my classroom with a wide range of reading experiences, interests, and confidence levels. These books have helped make reading feel like something to look forward to rather than simply another assignment.\r\n\r\nWe use literature to build much more than basic comprehension. As we read, students practice identifying themes, analyzing characters and their motivations, making inferences, citing textual evidence, discussing an author's choices, and connecting ideas across texts. Reading in our classroom is also interactive. Students read independently, with partners, and as a whole class; stop to discuss important moments; make predictions; respond in writing; and share their interpretations with one another. Having engaging, age-appropriate texts gives students something worth thinking and talking about while they develop these skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been hearing students ask about the books before we even begin them. Students have examined the covers, read descriptions, compared titles, and told me which books they hope we will read next. Some students who are usually less enthusiastic about reading have been drawn in simply because these books look and feel like books they actually want to pick up. Your generosity has helped me create a classroom where students can experience that excitement, curiosity, and anticipation around reading.
