Students use the new materials throughout the day during scheduled sensory breaks and during moments when they need additional support with regulation. The tools help them calm their bodies, refocus their attention, and return to learning more quickly and confidently. One powerful moment occurred on the first day the room opened—students eagerly explored the space, touching and testing each item, and many were immediately drawn to tools that matched their individual sensory preferences.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was evident, but even more meaningful has been the lasting impact. Students now look forward to visiting the sensory room and will request specific tools that help them regulate. We are already seeing improved transitions, increased engagement in the classroom, and greater independence in recognizing and meeting their own sensory needs. The room has become a safe, welcoming space where students feel understood and supported.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include continuing to add purposeful sensory equipment and ensuring consistent, effective use of the space. We also hope to expand access to other students who may benefit from regulation support. Thank you for giving our students the tools they need to feel calm, successful, and ready to learn—your impact is felt every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1764123393840,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calming-space-for-exceptional/9905988/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calming Space for Exceptional Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Corey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3702154"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3059","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":432,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":3059,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Macon Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Macon Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/macon-county-school-district/south-macon-elementary-school/3059"}
