They thrive when they can see the real-world results of their hard work, and this project has given them exactly that opportunity. With our new design station, students are now able to create and manipulate embroidery files using CAD-style software, exploring how geometry, scaling, and digital coordinates translate into physical stitches. The Bluetooth mice have been especially impactful, allowing students to make the precise adjustments that computer-aided design requires, something that was nearly impossible with a trackpad.\r\nThese tools have opened the door for students to experience sewing as a STEM discipline. Your support provided our students with a Brother Embroidery Sewing Machine, 80 spools of embroidery thread, bobbins, and additional machine hoops—resources that immediately expanded what our club could imagine and create. donorschoose.org\r\nOur students meet three times a week, and for many, this is their first experience with sewing of any kind. With the new equipment, they have been able to explore everything from basic hand stitching to operating a computerized embroidery machine. They are learning how to use the design software that accompanies the machine, applying concepts from geometry, engineering, and digital literacy as they digitize their own artwork and bring it to life through thread. donorschoose.org\r\nBeyond the technical skills, students are also discovering the deep history of embroidery as an ancient textile art form. They run to class everyday because it is first come first serve. This is nice to see. They love when I turn off the overhead lights and they get an ambience that they feel calm and comforted by. I am pleased to say, this makes my heart happy. Sometimes they try and put more than one person on a bean bag just so they can all gather together. Teens. You think they are grown and then you realize they are not. They are just larger versions of little ones. They have needs and issues like all of us and having a space that feels comfy and safe in a school is nice to have. Kids learn better when they are comfortable. I have already had multiple requests of \"Ms Anderson, where can I buy one of those?\", or \"Ms Anderson that is so silky and nice\", even, \"Ms Anderson, this be my favorite room now!\" and all of these comments bring me great joy indeed. \r\n\r\nI have to say that the kids are so happy to be in a bean bag chair, out on the rug, to just stay out of the desks they have been in all day long.\r\n\r\nThe students enjoy the lighting in the room as well, making them feel relaxed and comfortable.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for making the end of the year less stressful and more enjoyable to many students: especially the ones that just don't fit into a desk very comfortably, have issues with flourescent lighting which is harsh and unforgiving for me as well.
