Rather than simply printing objects, we use the printer to design and fabricate tools that directly support student learning. For example, students have designed and printed custom texture plates and stamps that we press into clay. This allows them to explore pattern, repetition, depth, and surface design in a hands-on way. Instead of relying only on pre-made materials, they are creating the very tools that shape their artwork. This deepens their understanding of texture, relief, and form while also introducing them to digital design thinking and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the sense of ownership. They are not just completing an assignment; they are imagining something personal, designing it digitally, watching it come to life layer by layer, and then using it to enhance their artwork. There is something powerful about seeing a sketch on paper become a tangible object. The 3D printer has also brought an element of joy and curiosity into the room. Students eagerly check the progress of prints and brainstorm new ideas for how we can incorporate printed elements into clay projects, mixed media pieces, and sculpture.\r\n\r\nI have seen particular students thrive with this technology, especially those who may not always feel confident in traditional drawing or painting. Some students who struggle with two-dimensional work have found confidence and success in digital modeling and three-dimensional thinking. Others who love engineering, gaming, or design have discovered that art connects directly to their interests. It has created a bridge between creativity and technology, helping students see that art is not separate from innovation, it is part of it.\r\n\r\nThis 3D printer has expanded the way my students think, create, and problem-solve. It has made our classroom more dynamic, more personal, and simply more fun. Because of this generous donation, my students are not just learning about art, they are inventing within it.","fullyFundedDate":1763149482222,"projectUrl":"project/technology-and-art-making-it-in-3d/9711297/","projectTitle":"Technology and Art!
