The bean bags and mini benches gave my students something that a traditional desk could not always provide—a comfortable space where they could feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Many of my students have different learning, sensory, attention, and emotional needs, so having the ability to choose a seating option that worked best for them helped create a classroom environment that was more responsive to the individual student.\r\n\r\nThroughout the school year, I saw students use these spaces during small-group instruction, independent reading, academic interventions, and moments when they simply needed a different environment to refocus. Students became excited about coming into the classroom and having a space designed with their needs in mind. Flexible seating also helped encourage independence because students learned to identify where and how they worked best.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these supplies helped me create an EC classroom that felt less restrictive and more welcoming. My students deserve learning spaces that recognize that they do not all learn the same way. Seeing the positive impact of just a few flexible seating options showed me how powerful the classroom environment can be in supporting student engagement, confidence, and academic success.
