Seeing \"boost literacy\" and \"fight hunger\" as part of the Allstate Foundation's mission inspired us. We both struggled with reading when we were young, due to learning disabilities, and now as Seniors in high school realize the importance of early intervention and literacy support at a young age.\r\n\r\nThis program was unique in that we weren't just reading to the kids, there was connection, conversation, and of course, snacks involved. Giving the kids the opportunity to work with new people, in small groups, let them all make tight connections with the readers from our school. We hope that by including the snack and bookmark craft as part of this program we are supporting the idea that although reading is hard, it can also be fun and be rewarded. Sometimes all you need to enjoy doing something that's hard for you, is to do it in a new and interesting way. Our intention was for the students we visited to have left with not just a shiny new book with a cool bookmark stuck in it, but a new perspective on reading. \r\n\r\nWhile this program was designed to have an impact on the younger kids, we saw a lot of our classmates also leaving the classroom having gained something new. The walk down the halfway leaving the classroom was full of recounts of the funny reactions the kids had to the books, what their bookmarks looked like, or what types of books we read to them. For us it was a wonderful experience full of nostalgia. A lot of the books we brought in were ones we read growing up as kids. For all of us and especially our seniors, this was a very full-circle moment.\"\r\n\r\nThank you for providing the funding to support this student-led project. It was amazing to see them work through the process of brainstorming their idea, researching and purchasing materials, securing volunteers, and interacting with the younger students. Your donation allowed for this project to happen and has inspired our group to find ways to continue this project in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1773421771601,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-bites/10095986/","projectTitle":"Books and Bites","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Browning","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp17686_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y232&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692921363249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amandabrowning"},{"teacherId":17686,"projectId":9757007,"letterContent":"On behalf of our students and the entire Physical Education department, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to our classroom. Your support has provided us with more than just equipment; you've provided new opportunities for our students to grow, move, and learn.\r\n\r\nThe new equipment has sparked a total transformation in our daily routine, blending high-energy play with better classroom structure. The table tennis table and nets have introduced a thrilling new skill set for the students, while the fresh playground balls ensure that every child stays active without having to wait their turn. Beyond the physical play, the classroom clock has greatly improved our time management, and the cardstock allows us to create durable visual aids and tournament brackets that keep the kids organized and motivated. Each item has directly contributed to a more engaging, professional, and inclusive environment for every student.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the room when we unboxed the table tennis table was truly unforgettable. Because of you, our students are not just exercising; they are feeling valued. Seeing brand-new, high-quality equipment tells them that their education and their health are worth investing in.","fullyFundedDate":1768450064115,"projectUrl":"project/stock-the-closet/9757007/","projectTitle":"Stock the Closet","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Browning","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp17686_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y232&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692921363249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/amandabrowning"},{"teacherId":17686,"projectId":9173298,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. Your donation has made it possible for me to purchase a class set of Scholastic Choices magazine, a resource that will be incredibly valuable to my students.\r\n\r\nThis magazine is more than just a periodical; it's a tool that bridges the gap between health education and literacy. Each issue provides our students with a fresh look at current health trends, from nutrition and fitness to mental well-being and social issues. The articles are engaging and relevant to their lives, which helps them connect with the material on a personal level.\r\n\r\nBy using this magazine, my students will not only learn important health concepts but also improve their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and vocabulary. This resource will allow us to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment where students can discuss, debate, and analyze information that directly impacts their health.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly made a difference in our classroom and will empower our students to make informed decisions about their health for years to come.
